THE Zimbabwe Republic Police Bulawayo Netball team was crowned the champions of the Bulawayo Netball Association mid-season break tournament at Sobukhazi High School on Saturday. The tournament attracted 11 teams from the province who battled it out in a round robin format. The teams that participated were Delta Queens, Free Stars, Induna Stars, ZRP Ntabazinduna, ZRP Bulawayo, Zimpost, Zesa, Mealie Brands, Imbizo Queens, Railstars Queens and ZPC Bulawayo who ended up playing seven games each because of time limits.

ZRP Bulawayo beat every team they came across in all of their seven games finishing on 14 points with runners up Zesa only losing a single match against the champions placing them at 12 points while Mealie Brands finished third with 10 points after winning five of their seven games.

Takonana Nsala, the tournament’s organising secretary, said he was happy with the way the tournament was handled and praised the players’ discipline.
“I am happy with how everything went, all the teams were well disciplined and everyone enjoyed themselves,” said Nsala.

Railstars and Free Stars both finished with 10 points, but were overtaken by third placed Mealie Brand on match score difference in which Railstars lost by three.

Nsala also applauded their newly graduated umpires who officiated at the tournament.
“I would also like to thank and congratulate the newly appointed umpires who handled the tournament very well,” said Nsala.

Moonlight Funeral Services and Zimbabwe Red Cross provided part sponsorship for the tournament.
