The 21st February Movement celebrations will be held on February 28.
The date was set by the Zanu-PF Politburo yesterday.Celebrations to mark President Mugabe’s 91st birthday will this year be held in Victoria Falls.
The date had been proposed by the Zanu-PF Youth League to the Politburo.
The 21st February Movement has been celebrated since 1986 to encourage Zimbabweans, mainly the youths, to emulate President Mugabe’s revolutionary ideals, charismatic leadership and selfless dedication to the Zimbabwean and African cause.
Speaking after the first Politburo meeting following the successful 6th National People’s Congress last December, party spokesperson Cde Simon Khaya Moyo said the date had been endorsed.
“We were advised that celebrations for the 21st February Movement will be held in Victoria Falls on February 28, 2015,” he said.
Cde Khaya Moyo said the Politburo had tasked him to look at the themes proposed by the Youth League and recommend the most appropriate one.
“They proposed three themes but it was finally agreed that they should bring them to me for further scrutiny and I’ll deliberate on them and report to the leadership on Monday.”
Zanu-PF Youth League has been the traditional organiser of the event since 1986 and this year they have set Elephant Hills Resort as the venue.
A gala will be held at Chinotimba Stadium in the town’s high density suburb to pen off the event.
