THE 2015 edition of the Ingwebu Breweries Naph inter-schools football tournament’s curtain comes down today with regional finals set for Maphisa growth point in Matobo district, Matabeleland South.

The competition, which began with provincial finals at the same venue on July 3, will see four boys’ teams and a similar number of girls’ teams battling it out for the golden shield and a cash prize of $2,500 for the boys and $2,000 in the girls’ section.

Host province Matabeleland South will be represented by two teams in each category, which will see provincial champions Tongwe Primary School from Beitbridge and Nkazhe from Gwanda North carrying the province’s hopes in the boys’ event.

Longfield and Brunapeg Primary schools will play in the girls’ category. Longfield are the provincial queens.

Defending champions Bulawayo is being represented by Lukhanyiso Primary in the boys’ version and Indlovu Iyanyathela in the girls’ tournament.

Loziba Primary, who were ruthless on their way to victory in the provincial finals held at Nkayi High School on July 17, are the Matabeleland North representatives in the boys’ event and Turk Mine Primary will play in the girls’ version.

The losing finalists in the boys’ version will walk away with $2,000, third placed team $1,500 and the fourth placed $1,200.

In the girls’ section, $1,500 will go to the losing finalists, with the third best school getting $1,000 and the fourth placed $500.

Ingwebu Breweries are sponsoring the girls’ event for the first time since the tournament was launched in 1994 and scouts from the women’s league teams would be in Maphisa today to identify untapped talent.

The Bulawayo company, which turned 100 years two years ago, recently introduced their Royal Sorghum and Royal Mahewu brands.

“Ingwebu now produces brands that can appeal to the whole family and society at large. Schools can now have Royal Mahewu brand in their tuck shops as part of their fundraising activities, while parents can prepare a nice Royal Sorghum porridge for the kids as they prepare for school,” said Ingwebu Breweries general manager (brewery) Nkosana Prince Ndlovu during the recent Bulawayo provincial finals.
