Yaounde — Nigerian-based militant group Boko Haram has kidnapped the wife of Cameroon’s vice president Amadou Ali early yesterday morning. The incident took place after militants attacked the town of Kolofata, in the far northern region of Cameroon leaving an unknown number of people dead and abducting the wife of Ali.

According to communication minister Issa Tchiroma Bakary, the militants attacked the house of Ali along with local traditional chief.

The attack was carried out in response to Cameroon government’s increasing involvement in combating the Boko Haram group in Nigeria.

The militant group had issued repeated warnings asking the government of Cameroon to steer clear of the issue. — AFP
