THE Bulawayo Athletics Board (BAB) yesterday named a 22-member team to represent the province at the National Cross Country Championships at Morris Depot in the capital on February 7.

BAB held qualifiers at Luveve High School and settled for 22 athletes that recorded the best qualification times in the junior men and women as well as senior men and women’s categories.

The junior women and men’s trials were over 6KM and 8KM respectively while the senior women and men did 8KM and 12KM.

BAB chairman Emmanuel Mpofu said they were happy with times recorded by their athletes and was confident that they would defend the cross country title they won in 2015.

“We’ve picked a strong team made up of nearly the same athletes we had last year and we are therefore confident that we are going to defend our title. We picked almost six athletes per category, meaning we will be represented well in every race,” said Mpofu.

The team will be managed by Nkosilathi Ncube while BAB vice chairperson Tivavone Gava will be head of delegation and Mercy Mpofu the chaperone.
