THE Bulawayo Pool Association (BPA) has showered praises on Priscilla Chisoro and Carol Dube for winning gold and bronze medals at the Carling Black Label National Pool Championships held in Mutare at the weekend.

Chisoro was among the 32 women that took part in this year’s championships. Chisoro came from behind to beat Emma Chirebvu 2-1 in the final to claim gold, $1 000 prize money, a trophy, cue stick and three cases of Carling Black Label.

Dube saw off the challenge of Someya Mlauzi 2-1 to get bronze. She went home with $300, a T-shirt, a cap and one case of CBL, while Mlauzi pocketed $200, a cap and case of CBL.

Speaking on the sidelines of the tournament, Donald Wadawu, the BPA vice-chairman said: “We came here confident of claiming lots of medals and as an association we congratulate Chisoro and Dube for doing Bulawayo proud. It wasn’t an easy competition, but they managed to maintain their composure.

We hope their victory will inspire more women to take up the game of pool.”

He commended Delta Beverages for sponsoring pool.

“Delta Beverages through their Carling Black Label brand have immensely contributed to the development of pool from just an ordinary game played in bars to a competitive sport. As pool associations, we’re grateful for their continued partnership,” Wadawu said.

Meanwhile, the men’s title was taken by Obedience Nyaumwe of Chitungwiza after beating a field of 64.

Last year’s winners, Brian Chatoma and Charity Ncube were booted out in the early stages of the competition. The 2016 men’s champion Chatoma lost in the first round, while Ncube, the women’s champion, was eliminated in the second stage of the tournament. — @ZililoR.
