BULAWAYO Athletic Board (Bab) will take advantage of the ongoing Technical Education Sport Association of Zimbabwe (Tesaz) Games to hold qualifiers for next month’s ZITF Four-Minute Mile.

The country’s polytechnics and industrial colleges are in Bulawayo for the Tesaz Games  which started yesterday and end on Easter Monday.

Dailes Bingadadi, the Bab secretary-general said they have deployed their members to officiate in athletics at the games and will hold the ZITF qualifiers tomorrow.

She is confident that some of the colleges’ athletes will qualify for next month’s meet which will be held at the ZITF Main Arena on April 28 and 29.

“We now have 19 athletes who have qualified for the finals. Five qualified from last weekend’s National Association of Secondary Schools Heads (Nash) national championships in Mutare and another six booked their places in the final during trials held on Wednesday in Harare.

“We expect more athletes to qualify during the Tesaz Games and four or so other qualifying races that we are going to hold,” said Bingadadi.

The ZITF Four-Minute Mile’s qualifying time is four minutes 31 seconds.

Leading athletes who have qualified include defending champion Trust Chidomaya who won last year’s final in four minutes 16 seconds, Ziscosteel’s Kelvin Gundani, Willard Mutasa of HQ One Brigade, ZRP Fairbridge duo of Amon Moyo and Barberton Mhlanga, Sparrows trio of Hlalani Ngwenya, Ntando Maphosa and Dumo Mkhwananzi and ZPCS’ Jonathan Chinyoka.
