AMBITIOUS Premier Soccer League side Bulawayo City are reportedly on the verge of signing former Zimbabwe Saints left-back Itayi Muganiwa.

Muganiwa, a free agent who turns 26 in November, has been training with the Mandla Mpofu-coached side for the past month.

“He is a very talented player. He has actually proved that he can add value to our team. With one slot remaining in our squad, we think Itayi can be a good cover for Munyardzi Mungadze, who has been our regular left-back,” said Mpofu.

City take on a bruised Triangle United in a Week 23 fixture tomorrow at Gibbo Stadium in the Lowveld.

Muganiwa was part of the 2011 Zimbabwe Saints squad that played in the local elite football league under Ephraim Chawanda and the late Willard Khumalo.

He played alongside Munyaradzi Diya, Evans Rusike, Sydney Linyama, Chipo Tsodzo and Dumisani Ndlovu, among others.

Before trying his luck at Amakhosi, Muganiwa played at centre back for Zifa Eastern Region Division One outfit Hartley FC.

City recently snapped up Ishmael Wadi on loan from FC Platinum. As the part of the deal, City released veteran striker Mkhokheli Dube to the Zvishavane-based football outfit.

The duo of holding midfielder Kelvin Madzongwe and defender Peace Tshuma also parted ways with City during the midseason transfer window to join Harare City. — @FungaiMuderere
