Durban July fever is here. South Africa’s most prestigious horse racing event, also known for showing the best of fashion, will be held on Saturday at Greyville Racecourse.

Mzansi’s top designers are getting ready to show off their interpretation of this year’s theme — The Captain’s Table.

SunBuzz caught up with popular designer Matome Seshoka of Anther Line, who gave a sneak peek at his garments. He said he chose different shades of blue with a hint of red and gold hues.

When asked how he interpreted the theme, Matome said: “I thought of yachts, sophistication and class for a special market.

“It’s about opulence, since the Captain is His Royal Highness of the yacht kingdom. No mediocrity is allowed at The Captain’s Table, so it’s like dining with royalty. It’s about high-class fashion and quality.”

Describing his designs, he said: “We went with the classical cuts (corsets and flared bottoms) and for the vintage royal look we added capes, both for men and women.”

Matome said he is humbled that people are starting to appreciate his work.

“It’s been five long years but I’ll keep working hard to push the brand to greater heights,” said the designer.
