COPENHAGEN.
An electric car promising “unlimited mileage” has been unveiled in Copenhagen.
The Fluence Z.E. Prime Time is an electric-powered, mid-size car manufactured by French carmaker Renault. The vehicle’s long-lasting, lithium-ion battery is said to offer a range of 185 kilometres. Since the battery is changeable, drivers can theoretically enjoy unlimited driving distance.
“Fluence ZE becomes the first unlimited range vehicle in Europe,” Phillip Klein, Renault’s executive vice president for planning and programmes, said on Thursday at a news conference marking the car’s launch.
“We can swap the battery faster than we can fuel a regular car.”
The car will be available for delivery in the fourth quarter of this year.
“Our ambition is to put more than 1,5 million electric vehicles on the roads by 2016,” Klein said.
Better Place, an electric vehicles services provider, and Renault’s partner on the Fluence ZE project, will establish an infrastructure network in Denmark that includes establishing 19 car-battery switching stations across the country by early 2012. Consumers will pay a fixed, monthly rate to charge their batteries, depending on their mileage needs.
Better Place believes that will appeal to customers tired of rising gasoline prices. – Xinhua.
