THE Bulawayo Five-A-Side Soccer League has been hailed by the chairperson of the Zifa sub-committee responsible for it, Twine Phiri.
Phiri is also the board member who was assigned the role of supervising beach soccer.  He said they were impressed that Philani Banda’s Five-A-Side league was the only one in the country which was active with a league and several tournament activities.

He challenged other provinces to emulate Bulawayo and start organising competitions.

Meanwhile, the deadline for the registration of teams and players with the Bulawayo league is today.

Banda confirmed that the league had nine teams which had submitted necessary documentation for registration and there was still room for others to do so by end of business today.

Banda’s league received sponsorship from Pension Gwanzura of Pension Knitwear last month.

“We have received registration documents from only nine teams and we have extended the deadline to the last day of the month to give those who have not yet registered time to come forward and register their teams before the end of the day tomorrow,” said Banda

Banda said competition would resume at Bulawayo Athletic Club this Saturday after a break that had been meant to allow teams to register.

“All the three matches which were postponed will be played in the morning before this weekend’s fixtured games,” said Banda.
