FORMER Dynamos defender Guthrie Zhokinyi has joined Triangle United following the lifting of his life ban by Zifa for his role in the Asiagate scandal. Zhokinyi was the worst affected by Asiagate in which the national football team played matches that were fixed in the Far East. He has featured in a number of pre-season friendlies for Triangle and assistant coach Biggie Zuze said he was in the club’s plans.

“This is the final week for us with Zhokinyi and we will sit down with the technical team to review his performance, which so far has impressed us. I’m happy with his experience and he will join the Triangle ship,” said Zuze.

Zhokinyi is one of the new faces that have joined the Lowveld-based side. Others that have been training with the Sugar Boys include former Caps United player Charles Mukanhairi, Marion Chang and former FC Platinum striker Nelson Maziwisa.

The quartet are the most recognisable faces among a host of players that have trekked to the Lowveld following a massive exodus of players, who include Ashley Rayners, Zambian import Makundika Sakala and Tichaona Chipunza, who left with former head coach Kelvin Kaindu, who is now at gold miners How Mine FC.

The Sugar Boys have roped in former Dynamos coach David Mandigora as head coach to bolster their technical department.

Mandigora was barking instructions in Gweru at the weekend when Triangle fell 0 – 2 to Chapungu in a pre-season friendly.
