INLINE Academy are now four points clear at the top of the Zifa Southern Region Women Football league table following a 5-0 thrashing of Borrow Jets.

Hearts of Oak walloped Cowdray Park Queens 9-0 to move into second place, while schoolgirls Magwegwe trampled over their more illustrious but troubled opponents Highlanders Royals 8-0 at the club house.

It was, however the Boga Ndebele-coached Inline Academy’s win that sent a clear intent of their championship credentials this season. A Thobekile Mtambo hat-trick and a goal each by Privilidge Mupeti and Perpetual Mathe ensured the table-toppers remained unbeaten, while also taking their goals tally to an incredible 49 from seven matches.

“It was a good game; they really gave us a good run for our money, but I would like to say thumbs up to my players for a good game,” said Ndebele.

Highlanders Royals’ fifth straight loss triggered an emergency meeting by concerned female Highlanders members, including committee member Wisdom Mabhena, that saw a new committee led by city businesswoman Caroline Ndlovu being ushered into power on an interim basis.

The committee’s mandate is to “save Highlanders Royals” and is expected to set up proper administrative mechanism to help revive the girls’ confidence.

Other members of the committee are Thandiwe Msimanga, who will deputise Ndlovu, former Zimbabwe Referees Committee boss and businesswoman Samukeliso Silengane, who comes in as board member in charge of competitions and Keta Marizani to be in charge of the finance portfolio. Sibekiwe Ndlovu, who has been running the show, will also be given some role.

The technical staff led by Jackie Ngwenya will also likely be beefed up.

Results:

Highlanders Royals 0-8 Magwegwe, Inline Academy 5-0 Borrow Jets, Cowdray Park 0-9 Hearts of Oak
