ZAMBIAN coach, Kelvin Kaindu, has brought the Midas Touch to Triangle United FC, guiding them to the top of the Premiership table after four games.

The championship race might be in its infancy but no doubt, Kaindu and his Triangle United troops have done well to be counted among title contenders. They are tied on 10 points with defending champions Dynamos thanks to their 1-0 win away to Dongo Sawmill on Monday. Richard Kawondera was on target for Triangle United.

DeMbare dropped points in their 1-1 draw with Caps United and also conceded for the first time.

Although he has managed to lead the Lowveld side to their best position at this stage of the competition since they gained promotion in 2013, Kaindu remains modest, putting emphasis on the need to concentrate in all their outings.

In their maiden Premiership season – 2013 – after four rounds of matches Triangle United were on position 15 with just four points from a win, a draw and two losses.

At this stage of last season the Sugar Boys were on position seven with five points, five places behind table toppers Dynamos.

This time around Triangle United is neck-to-neck with Dynamos and the question that many are asking is, will they be able to keep their fire burning?

In his post match interview after their slender 1-0 victory over Dongo Sawmill, Kaindu conceded that they labored for victory and warned other teams that they would find life difficult when they make their visits to Vengere Stadium.

“Dongo are just unfortunate not to be winning matches but I can tell you those guys go for every ball and they make it so difficult for their opponents. They’re a team that also knows how to use home advantage very well, a lot of teams will will testify to that when they play at Vengere,” said Kaindu.

He was quick to dismiss his side as a team to beat.

“I don’t think we will be seen as a club to beat in any way from now on. This is just too early and the season has a long way to go. We will just concentrate on making sure we play our games to collect points and forget about other teams,” he said.

Even during his days at Highlanders, Kaindu was always diplomatic in his comments about the championship thereby taking pressure off his charges.

Triangle United’s next opponents are Caps United who just like them are yet to lose.

The Green Machine overcame their gloomy Thursday challenges when their players refused to turn-up for their clash with How Mine at Luveve Stadium to pull off a 1-1 draw against Dynamos on Easter Monday.

Caps United should be the real test for Kaindu and his charges whose opening games were against Hwange who they beat 5-2, followed by a 1-1 draw at Buffaloes then their 3-0 home win over Chapungu.

It will be folly to ignore Chicken Inn among championship contenders as the Gamecocks are just a point behind Triangle United and Dynamos.

Edmore Chirambadare – signed from Tsholotsho FC – scored a brace for Chicken Inn as they beat Whawha 2-0.

Tsholotsho FC and Hwange played to a 1-1 draw at White City Stadium.
