GOAL scoring machine Kuda “Mashefu” Musharu is living true to his nickname by hitting the back of the net in almost every game that he has played for How Mine FC.
Mashefu, a colloquial word meaning “boss” is leading striker in the land with eight Premiership goals in eight matches.
His goal scoring prowess saw him  being called up for the national team for the African Cup of Nations first leg of the first preliminary round qualifier against Tanzania a fortnight ago. Unfortunately the striker who had been drafted into camp for injured Simba Sithole of Ajax Cape Town came in as second half substitute with the Warriors trailing 0-1 to Tafia Stars.

Musharu returned from national duty and continued from where he left scoring a goal against their Week Seven opponents Caps United who they beat 2-0 and on Saturday was on target when they drew 2-2 with ZPC Kariba.

With eight goals, four ahead of the chasing quintet of Charles Sibanda (Highlanders), FC Platinum’s Qadr Amini, Dominic Chungwa of Caps United, Tinei Chitora (Triangle) and Daniel Chakupa of Shabanie Mine, Musharu has no intention of slowing down.

He has set himself a target of winning the top goal scorer gong at the end of the year.
“I have played eight out of the nine league matches and I am happy with my new found form. I wouldn’t have achieved this feat without my teammates and coaches who have been very supportive. The only match that I missed was the second game of the season against Bantu Rovers which we lost 3-1. The only game that I did not score was the season’s opener against Dynamos but I have been on target in the other seven games that I have played.

“With God’s grace and continued hard work, my hope is to help the team win lots of matches and be crowned the league’s top goal scorer. I think I am doing well in terms of paying back Beefy (How Mine head coach Philani Ncube) and the club who gave me a lifeline when Monomotapa was relegated last season,” said Musharu.

The former Underhill, Monomotapa and Motor Action gunman is having a dream season at How Mine with a total 14 goals from all competitions having scored six in the Orange Caf Confederation Cup campaign with the miners.

He joined the national team camp yesterday for the weekend’s game against Tanzania in Harare.
Musharu believes the league is still in its infancy and thinks the chasing pack can catch up.

Last season’s top goal scorer Tendai Ndoro had 18 goals the same as 2012 leading gunman Nelson Maziwisa while 2011 top marksman Roderick Mutuma scored 14 goals.

“If you look at this year’s competition, I think the leading goal scorer at the end of the season will have more than 20 goals. I think every striker has an ambition to be at the top and mine is to maintain my form. I know there will be a time when goals will dry up but if I manage to be on target in every game, then I will be happy,” he said.
