ZIFA chief executive officer Jonathan Mashingaidze is due to meet the Mighty Warriors’ technical team to discuss the women’s national team roadmap to the Rio Olympics in August.

Mighty Warriors’ coach Shadreck Mlauzi drafted an ambitious roadmap that includes several friendly matches against tough opponents in the run-up to the Olympics.

Mashingaidze said they will also talk about money due to be paid to the national women’s team.

“A statement on the status of the girls’ team will be issued on Thursday afternoon. We’re going to discuss their roadmap and have a final say on what’s set for the Mighty Warriors,” said Mashingaidze.

“We’re working round the clock to secure funds for the team to ensure they are catered for. We’re engaging various stakeholders and the meeting will decide what will be done.”

The Mighty Warriors are set to play against neighbouring South Africa in a friendly match on January 27 at a venue yet to be decided.

The Mighty Warriors made history by becoming the first national football team to qualify for the Olympics when they overcame giants Cameroon 3-2 on aggregate in October 2015.

The girls lost 1-2 in the first leg in Yaoundé before edging the visitors 1-0 in Harare to make the historic qualification.
