The Minister for State Security, Cde Kembo Mohadi has urged businesses to invest in Beitbridge town which has embarked on a modernisation drive.

Cde Mohadi who is also Beitbridge East legislator, said there are a lot of business and investment opportunities in the town waiting to be exploited.

In a speech read on his behalf by Beitbridge District Administrator, Mrs Kiliboni Ndou-Mbedzi, during the official opening of a $2million Doves Holdings one stop parlour, the minister said it was important to develop infrastructure in line with the world urbanisation trends.

“We thank Doves Holdings for this huge investment in our town. It is important to note that we have a lot of investment opportunities in the town which await exploitation as we travel through the road to modernisation. Infrastructure and utilities development is part of our government’s economic blueprint, Zim-Asset and I would want to call on business and other players to emulate what Doves has done,” said Cde Mohadi.

“As you are all aware the town has made tremendous growth in the last decade in property development and other amenities. I want to challenge local businesspeople to consider upgrading their infrastructure to meet modern standards”.

He said the development of any country needs a concerted effort, hence development players, political leaders and local authorities must work with a shared vision.

“We also appeal to corporates operating in Beitbridge to consider adopting some of the outstanding capital projects for this town as part of the corporate social responsibility programmes,” he said.

Beitbridge town has an estimated population of 60 000 and has investment opportunities in education, the imports and exports, manufacturing,

education, packaging, transport and logistics sectors among others.

The Ministry of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing has approved a request by Beitbridge town council to upgrade to municipal status.
