ZIMBABWE People First leader Dr Joice Mujuru fell ill over the weekend in Bulawayo and was rushed to Harare for treatment. Dr Mujuru was supposed to attend a People’s Democratic Party (PDP) rally in Bulawayo on Sunday, but ended up sending another party official to stand in for her. Her ailment could not be immediately ascertained but PDP’s deputy president Dr Samuel Sipepa Nkomo told his party’s supporters at White City Stadium that Dr Mujuru was supposed to attend their first anniversary rally, but failed to make it as she was ill. “Dr Mujuru was supposed to be with us today but she fell ill. She had to be rushed to Harare to see doctors. She sent umaDube (ZimPF Bulawayo provincial chairperson Ms Buyalani) to represent her,” said Dr Nkomo.

Ms Dube also took the podium and said Dr Mujuru had been rushed to Harare for treatment. She did not state what the ex-Vice President was suffering from. Yesterday, ZimPF’s spokesperson Mr Methuseli Moyo said he had not been briefed about Dr Mujuru’s health status.

He downplayed the illness saying Dr Mujuru, just like any other person, was likely to fall sick. “I haven’t received any report. I can’t comment on her health. But we’re not panicking. If there is anything to report to the nation we will report to the people,” Mr Moyo said.

“She is a normal human being. She can fall sick but there is nothing to worry about.” Dr Mujuru addressed a poorly attended rally in Gwanda on Saturday. — @nqotshili
