Ms Letwin Siyapi was allegedly killed by her husband, Lovemore Toziya (30), a police constable who was accusing her of having an extra-marital affair with a neighbour.
A relative to Toziya who preferred anonymity told Chronicle yesterday that they have since met Siyapi’s family members.
The relative revealed that Siyapi’s family was demanding 40 beasts as compensation.

“We met as families yesterday (on Sunday) and the Siyapi family demanded that we pay them 40 beasts as compensation. They said the burial of their relative will only be done after their demands have been met,” said the relative.
The relative said they were not in a position to meet the demands as they were poor.

“We are very poor and our in-laws know it very well that their child was married to a poor family. We don’t know how they expect us  to raise all those beasts they are demanding,” he said.

The Toziya family relative said their in-laws were threatening to take the body from Gweru Provincial Hospital mortuary and dump it at their home in Masvori Village.
“We will be forced to seek help from the police if the worst happens. I don’t think we will be able to even meet a quarter of what they are demanding,” he said.
Mr Peter Jakarasi, a relative to Ms Siyapi, confirmed that the bereaved family has set conditions for the burial of their relative.

He, however, declined to confirm the number of beasts they were demanding.
“It’s obvious the brutal murder of our relative deserves             some form of compensation before any burial arrangements could be made. It pained us a lot given

the way she was killed           and a lot of information was not told in the report, which was given to the Press by the police,” said Mr Jakarasi without elaborating.
Mr Jakarasi said they were scheduled to meet the accused family again today.
“We will also meet tomorrow, hopefully to finalise the matter and this is when we can give you full details as to what exactly transpired,” he said.
