MWENEZI Rural District Council (RDC) has resolved to repossess more than 1 000 residential stands which have not been paid for by the beneficiaries, a senior official has said.

The owners of the residential stands, mainly vendors, civil servants and youths allegedly have not paid anything to council since the stands were allocated to them last year, despite repeated reminders by the local authority.

In an interview yesterday Mwenezi RDC chief executive officer Mr Albert Chivanga said council will revoke the offer letters from more than 1 000 home-seekers because they are unable to pay for the stands, unless they make payments in the next two weeks.

The affected home-seekers are those that were allocated residential stands at Lundi and Neshuro and Rutenga Growth Point. “Mwenezi RDC allocated these residential to a number of people in 2016 hoping that they will pay for them. However, it seems that they are not willing to make any payment. The stands were going for as little as $1 500 or $4 per square metre but surprisingly the beneficiaries have not paid anything since then. We have been writing letters to remind them that they should pay for their stands but we are not getting any response,” said Mr Chivanga. —  @walterbmswazie3
