THE National Association of Secondary School Heads has set the dates for the provincial and national athletics competitions for this year.
Provincial competitions for Bulawayo will be held at the recently upgraded White City Stadium from March 5 to 6 and the nationals will be held in Masvingo at Victoria High School from  March 19 to 20.

Bulawayo Province head-in-charge Peter Gambiza said that the venues could be changed.

“The dates for the events are final but we still have to confirm with the local authorities if White City will be available for us to hold our provincial competitions,” he said.

Gambiza said Nash introduced a new age-group for this year’s competitions.

“We introduced the Under-15 age-group so as to maintain continuity for the athletes that come from Naph when they start their Form One.

“We noticed that athletes that joined secondary schools from primary level were competing with Under-17s which demotivates them so this year they will compete on their own,” he said.

Gambiza said they are working on eliminating age-cheating.

“Age-cheating has been a major challenge and this year we have put measures in place to guard against age cheating,” he said.
