HIGHLANDERS Football Club card carrying member Nkosi Ncube has distanced himself from a group of supporters that petitioned the club to hold its annual general meeting at the end of a calendar year.

Ncube said he would not do anything that is against Highlanders and its leadership. He said Highlanders needed a united front if it was to improve its performance next season.

Ncube, who has previously tried to run for office at Highlanders elections, said he was solidly behind incumbent Peter Dube.

He said he was convinced that Dube’s executive was doing its best to address the challenges facing the club.

“Peter Dube is a good administrator and I think that the club is very lucky to have him as chairman. The allegations that I want to replace him are completely false because I’m not contesting in the elections next year,” he said.

Ncube said it was not a secret that the team performed badly last season but said this could not be blamed on the executive.

“Some of the petition movers are using it to hit back at the executive after several deals they wanted to benefit from as individuals out of Highlanders collapsed,” he said.

It is believed that some of the petition movers wanted their buses to be hired by the club to ferry the team, others sought to supply drugs while others wanted to “bank” their players at the club and then market them later with the club not benefiting as was the case with Peter Rio Moyo and Milton Ncube.

Ncube labelled those spreading the rumours that he wanted to take over at Highlanders as enemies that wanted to divide the Highlanders family.

“We’ve had a bad season but we learnt from that experience, I’m sure that the club will recover because of our junior policy,” said Ncube.

He said the team needed young disciplined players that had a shared vision of Highlanders’ ideology.

“I believe that our solution to our problem is to groom young players that are committed to the success of the team as opposed to those that are just after money,” he said.
