DIVERSIFIED concern, Group Five will before the end of the year build a multi-million commercial mall in Beitbridge. The mall project will be part of many such projects meant to uplift the face of the border town.

Group Five is a leading African construction, concessions and manufacturing holding company.

Beitbridge Town Council secretary, Loud Ramakgapola said the South Africa-based company was in the process of searching for an anchor tenant before construction of the mall begins.

The South African firm has rehabilitated some of Zimbabwe’s major highways that include the Plumtree- Mutare Highway.

“Group Five has expressed interest in building a multi-million dollar complex here and we’ve approved the project. They’ve indicated that in the third quarter of the year they’ll be on the ground,” said Ramakgapola.

He said the project was one of the many investments set to change the face of Beitbridge town.

Ramakgapola said the company wanted to first identify an anchor tenant.

“An anchor tenant could be a retail chain like Choppies Enterprises or Game of South Africa,” he said.

Ramakgapola said other investors that have shown interest in investing in the border town include the Zimbabwe Defence Forces Benefit Fund and Nyaradzo Funeral Assurance Company.

“We’ve other investors who’ve also shown interest in investing in the town. The Zimbabwe Defence Forces Benefit Fund has written to us indicating that they want to build their regional complex and a dry port. However, on the dry port, we’re yet to respond. Their projects we think will again change the face of the town. If established, the dry port will see people who travel as far as Musina to buy cars buying them at the dry port,” he said.

As part of strategies to lure investments, Beitbridge Town Council is offering incentives to potential investors willing to set up commercial properties.
