A NATIONAL University of Science and Technology (Nust) student yesterday appeared at the Western Commonage Court for allegedly stabbing a man three times on the head and chest with a screw driver.

Mcabangani Moyo, 24, of Mpopoma suburb in Bulawayo who allegedly stabbed Zibusiso Nkomo, 30, appeared before provincial magistrate Abednico Ndebele facing assault charges.

He is also alleged to have damaged a vehicle owned by Phiso Moyo, 48, also from the same suburb.

Mcabangani pleaded guilty to assault but denied damaging Moyo’s car.

The student, who said he is a first year business student at Nust pleaded for bail saying he needed to start preparing to go back to university.

“I ask the court to grant me bail because I need to start preparing to go back to school. I’m a first year business student at Nust,” said Moyo.
Magistrate Ndebele denied him bail and remanded him in custody to January 11.

Prosecuting, Mufaro Mageza, told the court that on December 22, 2015, at around 10PM Nkomo and Moyo found Mcabangani who was in the company of his friend in Moyo’s vehicle.

“The accused and his accomplice who is still at large, forced open complainant’s vehicle and damaged it. After opening the vehicle they entered and they were found in the car without a reasonable excuse for being there,” said Mageza.

“The complainant was then stabbed three times on the chest and on the head with a screw driver by the accused as he attempted to apprehend him.”
