ZIMBABWE Under-23 coach, Callisto Pasuwa, is not happy with his team’s preparation for the first leg of the Caf Under-23 Championships second round qualifier against Swaziland scheduled for Rufaro on Sunday.

The former Dynamos coach has been training with a depleted squad since they began camp on Tuesday and could not hide his disappointment after Premiership log leaders Chicken Inn yesterday recalled their two players Lawrence Mhlanga and Raphael Kutinyu.

Champions Dynamos also withdrew their defender Blessing Moyo and goalkeeper Tatenda Mukuruva earlier this week to leave the Young Warriors technical working with one goalkeeper, Takabva Mawaya, of Hwange.

Pasuwa was hoping to retain the bulk of the squad that excelled last month when they beat West African giants Cameroon and qualified for this year’s Africa Games finals but the situation has forced him to make some changes.

Pasuwa had to call youthful Caps United midfielder Tinovimba Muskwe, former Gunners midfielder Munyaradzi Chiwara and a goalkeeper from Aces Youth Academy after he was left with a severely depleted squad of 14 players.

“We’re not serious with what we want at the end of the day. If you go out there it mustn’t be a blame game. You see the way we’re preparing? We’re with players all the while and, at the last minute, they’re being withdrawn by their clubs.

“Then, at the end of the day, you tend to wonder what are we doing?

“We had a team that played in Cameroon and of all the defenders who were there left. I’m only left with one who featured in that game.

“Again I’m restarting and rebuilding again, which is not conducive for our football,” said Pasuwa

The Zimbabwe Under-23 coach was also expecting Kuda Mahachi to join camp yesterday but the Mamelodi Sundowns hotshot remained holed up in Bulawayo where he is attending to some family issues.

Hopes for England-based forward Macauley Bonne also seemed to have evaporated as it appeared Zifa did not have the money for his airfare.

New fitness trainer Majaha Ndlovu has had a busy week ensuring the players were in good condition after the coach expressed concern over the fitness of most of his players.

The boys appeared in high spirits yesterday as they went through their paces at Italian Sports Club.

Pasuwa had some of his key players like Teenage Radebe, Nqobizitha Masuku, Gerald Takwana, Liberty Chakoroma, Thomas Chideu, Malvin Gaki and skipper Wisdom Mutasa.

“I have been talking to these boys to motivate them. I told them we’re here to go out and play. We must not look for someone else to do the job for us. Let’s go out there and look for results,” said Pasuwa.

Their opponents are expected in the country this afternoon.
