AFTER continuously getting a raw deal from the Zambezi Tour, the Zimbabwe Professional Golf Association have formed a Development Tour known as the PGA Tour of Zimbabwe.

The tour has already had two successful events this month at Country Club, with the third event scheduled to be staged yesterday and today at Chapman.

Biggie Chibvuri won the inaugural event early this month with scores of four under 140 after the two rounds.

The second event was won by Pride Sembo who recorded scores of 70 and 67 for a seven under par 137, outclassing his peers by four shots.

The tour was founded by former Zambezi Tour operations manager Cedric Jonker who is now the PGA Tour of Zimbabwe CEO.

Jonker said it is good to see scores improve as players get more game time.

“It’s really fantastic to see the scores improving overall as the players compete more and more in this development tour which is designed to allow the players more golf under stringent tournament conditions

“We hope it’ll prove to be the main difference that will give our Zimbabwean professional golfers like Pride Sembo and amateurs alike the leading edge and help to improve their golfing future.

“Perhaps there’s a turning tide in performance for the local professional.

“Zimbabwe’s newest professional to hit the ranks is Scott Vincent, who is based in the United States and has returned to the USA and on whom great hopes are riding,” Jonker said.

On the international circuit Brendon de Jonge managed to make the cut at the Canadian Open at the weekend.

The Zimbabwean golfer returned to the field after missing the cut at his last two outings and finished on one-over par to pocket above $10 000.

De Jonge had rounds of 71, 67, 76 and 76 for a one-over par 289 after the four rounds.
