Principals to decide Zwambila’s fate

Felix Machiridza, is now being handled by principals to the Global Political Agreement.
President Mugabe, Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai and Deputy Prime Minister Arthur Mutambara are expected to meet at a date to be disclosed to determine the ambassador’s fate.

Ms Zwambila last year was spared in a case in which she was being accused of stripping naked in front of three male embassy staff in Canberra. She denied the allegations.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been studying the latest allegations levelled against the ambassador by Mr Machiridza. The ministry now wants the matter concluded by higher authorities.

Foreign Affairs Secretary Ambassador Joey Bimha said ambassadors represented the President in all their diplomatic postings and it was prudent that the matter be resolved at the highest level.
“That issue is now being handled by the principals. We have been waiting for Ambassador Zwambila’s report. We have since received it.

“As a ministry, we have also submitted our report to the principals and it is now up to them to decide the next course of action,” he said.
According to a source, President Mugabe as the appointing authority could in the context of the GPA, tell the political principal who nominated her she had acted incompatibly with the rules of diplomatic service. If convinced that Ambassador Zwambila had acted in a manner that brought his Office and Zimbabwe into disrepute, the President would ask her party to find another candidate acceptable to him.

Ambassador Zwambila was seconded to her current position by MDC-T in line with provisions of the GPA.
Latest allegations against Ambassador Zwambila stem from a report submitted to Government by Mr Machiridza accusing her of ill-treating him. In his report, Mr Machiridza claimed that Ambassador Zwambila would sometimes call him to serve her with drinks at night while she was half-naked.

He further complained that she forced him to live in a garage after he refused to occupy a bedroom on the same floor with hers.
Mr Machiridza also accused the ambassador of ill-treating him at work by forcing him to clean her son’s room littered with used condoms without protective clothing.

Although Ambassador Bimha refused to disclose details of Amba-ssador Zwambila’s report, it is understood that she denied all the allegations being levelled against her.
Last year, she defended herself against allegations that she had stripped naked in front of three male embassy officials.

She was recalled to Harare to explain her actions and later returned to her station in Canberra.
Her son Takunda was recently deported from Australia after he drove her official vehicle under the influence of alcohol.
