RAILSTARS were crowned the Champion of Champions Darts Championship winners after beating Bulawayo Metropolitan champions Archers 19-12 in the final match of the event held at Munyati Power Station in Kwekwe on Saturday.

Railstars captain Charles Widzisa said they prepared well for the tournament and are happy to be the winners of the event.

“We worked very hard to win the tournament, our aim was to walk away as champions and beating Archers in the final is a sign that this season we mean business, we will be at our best to dethrone them as the BMDL champions,” said Widzisa.

The best teams from the eight active provincial leagues around the country competed in the tournament, which, according to National Darts Association of Zimbabwe national secretary Stephen Mwarindira, was an entertaining show.

The teams were divided into four groups and in Group A was Kutsaga from Harare, Flight Masters from Midlands, Railstars from Bulawayo and Whitehouse from Harare,

Flight Masters and Railstars progressed through to quarter-finals. Group B had Banket from Mashonaland West, Raylton from Mashonaland Central and Gwanda & Districts from Matabeleland South.

Banket and Gwanda & District went through to the quarter-finals while in Group C Cry Mantengwane from Matabeleland South, Chikomo from Mashonaland East and Archers from Bulawayo battled it out with Chikomo and Bulawayo champions Archers going through to quarter-finals and in Group D was Renco from Masvingo, A Team from Mashonaland West and Buchwa from the Midlands.

A Team and Buchwa qualified for the round of eight teams.

In the quarter-finals Railstars beat Buchwa 19-11 to book a place in the semis.

Chikomo beat Banket with Archers drubbing Gwanda & District 19-8 and the A Team beat Masters.

Archers got the better of A Team to book a place in the final against Railstars.

Railstars won a floating trophy and US$500 in cash.
