A near empty club greeted the South African Soul Candi DJs on Friday night at Mojo’s Bar where the highly anticipated Andyboi album launch was supposed to be held.
The DJs, PM Project, Cuebur, Wildfire, and Just Native were billed to launch Andyboi’s album Trail Evolution at the bar and also give revellers an experience of South African house music.

They reportedly launched it on Saturday night at the same bar.
The crew arrived at 9.30PM on Friday to set up and they thought that the nightspot would fill up as the night wore on.

Normally at around that time night spots have a few patrons and the club starts to fill up between 10.30PM and 12AM on a normal night.
However, on Friday the nightspot did not fill up even when organisers ended up admitting patrons for free in a bid to encourage people to come to the club.
On the dance floor was a handful of people dancing to the music of resident DJs Dash, Josh, Marcus Andro and MH1.

Soul Candi DJs decided as a way to while up time at the members’ bar by playing a game of pool.
Some of the DJs were seated with patrons in the foyer having drinks and discussing various business and social issues as they waited for the nightspot to fill up.
This continued until 12AM when DJ Cue 1 went on the decks and played an array of house tracks from the Soul Candi stable.

Thereafter PM Project, Cuebur, Wildfire, and Just Native took over with Andyboi rounding off the night with a mini performance.
To their credit the Soul Candi DJs showed that they wanted to impress the small crowd and played mostly deep South African house.

If one was a fan of deep house music, it would have been a night well spent at Mojo’s Bar, as they played songs from Euphonic and Fresh. Local DJs Mark Vusani and Mellow T were also on hand to lend their support to the Soul Candi DJ’s.

In an interview Andyboi said he was not fazed by the fact that people did not come to the show.
“The only thing we came here to do was to fact finding, to link up with other DJs and also to find out what the market is like on the ground in Zimbabwe,” he said.
Andyboi said the DJs were having fun and it was a learning curve being in the country as this was their first time and they would be back soon.
