SA doctors operate on 4-legged baby

surgeonCape Town — South African doctors have operated on a baby who was born with four legs in Namibia. Two-month-old Andrew Palisimwe is said to be doing well after undergoing the nine hour operation at the Red Cross Children’s Hospital in Mowbray, reported Die Burger. Palisimwe was born with four legs in Namibia – two of the legs were growing from his abdomen.

He was flown back to Namibia on Tuesday where he is recovering in a local hospital.

The baby’s 25-year-old mother, Ruthy Mutanimiye, thanked the Namibian government for the financial support that made the operation possible.

“She is very grateful and relieved,” said Namibian government spokesperson Ester Paulus.

She didn’t want to elaborate on the cost of the operation but said: “It was very expensive but not the most. No amount of money is more important than to save someone’s life.”
