A teacher at Driefontein High School in Chirumanzu allegedly sodomised a pupil and indecently assaulted another before giving each of them $2 and food to buy their silence.Tawanda Waire of Ferafera compound, Driefontein Mission pleaded not guilty to sodomy and aggravated indecent assault when he appeared before Gweru magistrate, Florence Nago.

He was remanded out of custody to 5 August on $50 bail.

Prosecuting, Daniel Tafuma alleged that sometime in 2011 on a date unknown to the prosecutor, Waire asked a 15-year-old boy to carry exercise books to his house after school.

Tafuma said when the pupil got to Waire’s house, he allegedly invited him to the bedroom where he asked to have anal sex with him.

He said the teacher promised to give the boy $2 as payment for sex.

The court heard that Waire then sodomised him once and gave him $2 to buy his silence.

Tafuma further alleged that sometime in December last year, Waire invited the same boy to his house where he allegedly used the same method to sodomise him before giving him $ 2 and food.

The court also heard that on 29 November last year, Waire molested another 15-year-old pupil on the school bus while going for a school sponsored trip.

Tafuma alleged that Waire seized an opportunity when the complainant failed to secure a seat on the bus and asked him to sit on his lap.

It is alleged that Waire started fondling the complainant and caressing his organ.

The matter only came to light on 15 July this year when the matron of Driefontein Children’s Home where the two victims were staying while attending school, received a tip off from fellow pupils who had spotted one of the complainants leaving Waire’s house.

The two complainants later confessed that they had been sexually assaulted by Waire, the court heard.

The matter was reported to the police leading to Waire’s arrest.
