A TRAFFIC policeman died on the spot while three others sustained minor injuries when a car they were travelling in veered off the road and overturned, police have confirmed.The accident occurred on Friday at around 12 midnight at the 10km peg along the Masvingo-Beitbridge Road.

Acting Masvingo police spokesperson assistant Inspector Kudakwashe Dehwa identified the deceased only as Constable Bare of Mvurwi Police Traffic Section.

He said Constable Bare’s body was taken to Masvingo Provincial Hospital mortuary for a postmortem while the injured police officers were rushed to the same hospital where they were treated and discharged.

“On Friday around midnight, a national police traffic highway B-car driven by an Asst Insp Muzhoma was travelling towards Beitbridge along the Masvingo Beitbridge Road.

“The vehicle had four officers on board including the driver when the tragedy struck. Upon arriving at the 10km peg just outside Masvingo, the   driver lost control of the vehicle and it veered off the road.

“The vehicle overturned and rolled several times before landing on its roof killing one of the occupants and injuring three others,” said Asst Insp   Dehwa.

He said the deceased sustained head injuries leading to his death while the three officers escaped with some bruises. “Asst Insp Muzhoma sustained a small cut on the back but his condition is stable. All the injured passengers were treated and discharged. The other two injured passengers are Cst Mahoko and Cst Mezembe,” he said.
