PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa arrived in Bulawayo yesterday where he is scheduled to officially open the 59th edition of the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) today.

The President, accompanied by First Lady Auxilia Mnangagwa, landed at the Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport just before 11am.
He was welcomed by Vice President General Constantino Chiwenga (Retired), Bulawayo Provincial Affairs Minister Angeline Masuku, Home Affairs and Culture Minister Dr Obert Mpofu, Midlands Provincial Affairs Minister Owen Ncube, Zanu-PF Bulawayo provincial chairperson Dr Callistus Ndlovu, senior government and Zanu PF officials and service chiefs.

After his arrival, President Mnangagwa had a brief interaction with thousands of Zanu-PF supporters who had thronged the airport to welcome him.

This is the first time President Mnangagwa officiates at the ZITF as the Head of State following the resignation of former President Mr Robert Mugabe last year.

Running under the theme: “Sustainable Industrial Development – Inclusive, Competitive, and Collaborative,” the international expo kicked off on Tuesday with a packed business programme of top-level engagement in what organisers described as the “biggest” international trade showcase in decades.

ZITF Company chairperson Mrs Ruth Ncube said this year’s theme buttresses the new Government’s resolve to pursue industrialisation as the cornerstone of national economic growth and development.

International focus is on Zimbabwe this week as the country, under the new political dispensation ushered in about five months ago, moves to showcase trade and investment opportunities available.

A total of 18 countries are being represented this year, including the United Arab Emirates, a first timer.  Local participation has also increased. Up to 500 direct exhibitors are participating, about 40 percent higher than last year’s closing total of 356 direct exhibitors, and 30 percent higher than the booking situation at the same time last year.

The multi-sectoral exhibition features companies involved in manufacturing, mining, aviation, transport, education, food, clothing and textiles, packaging, agriculture, tourism, event management and cultural exchange programme among other sectors.

Exhibition space this year surpassed the 100 percent mark, and additional space has been availed to cater for more public and private sector participation.

The ZITF has also recorded an increase in the number of new local exhibitors with 25 percent of booked participants coming in for the first time as a confirmation of renewed economic confidence. The positive trend is indicative of an improved trading environment and renewed impetus to compete on the global market.

Am not sure if you are telling the truth. Fake testimony.

This has to be that sleaze-ball Roddy character. Who else is known for posting stupid out of context comments?

      • Moyo Roof Master

I don’t care what kind of dad this guy is. I don’t know him.

      • Rod Strictland

Whoever you are I’m really convinced you seriously need a thorough check-up from the neck up!!

        • Essexvale

Well hello Roddy boy! See I’ve managed to entice you out from under the stone where you live? Noticed too, that you’ve decided to use one of your more original names this time around. But allow me to respond to your suggestion concerning my upper body well-being. You see Roddy boy; I’ve only recently had a thorough whole person medical check which pronounced me as being in sound physiological and psychological form. Too bad that you have to go away disappointed.

          • Rod Strictland

Well hello my good friend, yes you have enticed me from under the rock that I had crept under after receiving numerous lashings from yourself, Dr Do Little, Jofa and Simon. My inbox is flooded with people begging for my return saying they miss my prolific writing skills and also that I need to come and instill discipline on the forum. While I do appreciate and stay loyal to my fans fully, I feel I no longer have the stomach for such. I’m now spending my retirement years travelling and seeing the world. I leave that to you as my Protegee and trust and hope you’ll do a go job at it. I’m sure you’ve since learnt the ropes.

          • Essexvale

But Roddy dear, with technology that the social media (including this particular forum) provide, you can travel wherever you like and still keep in constant touch. I’m saying that you can still access this platform and contribute even if you are holidaying on the moon or Mars. So get behind that keyboard and start pounding. Are you telling your followers that a few nerds have set you on the run from your responsibilities to the disqus community? However; when you return to writing on this platform, kindly consider doing so with civility or an attitude of decency. Having said that boy; let me make it clear that I’ve learned not to trust you. You claim that there are others who are aping your annoying writing style and giving users grief? I know that’s not true. Yes the names are many and different; but the offensive writing style is unmistakably “Roddy.” There’s an old saying which goes like this: “You can fool some of the people sometimes, but you can’t fool all the people all the time.” I’m not fooled Roddy boy.

          • Rod Strictland

Haven’t you heard there’s now a certain Rod Strictland V 2.0 wrecking havoc on this forum. He’s reminding me of my youthful self when I spoke the gangster Rap Lingo. He’s so good with the Lingo, he must have been cut from the same cloth as me hahaha.

          • Essexvale

My response? Hmmmmm ….. so sly and deceptive. I really liked you better when you were your old self, because then, at least I knew how to deal with you. But now this surprising metamorphosis? Tell us; have you had a Damascene experience. The new you is too good to be true ….. and I still think that you are in fact, Rod Strickland V2.0 as well as all those nasty characters that have a way of disruptively appearing below the comments of Dr Do Little, Bosso4Life (the actual deal), Galveston as well as my own. I’m not convinced ….. not as long as there’s a bad character in the Holy Bible whom we are warned appears to his victims as an angel of light.

          • Rod Strictland

Like Dr Do Little, I think I like you so much my friend, I like the way you write. Your vivid description remind me of my youthful self when I still had the energy to write. My writing would paint a vivid picture, you would feel like you are watching a short movie just by reading the pieces of my works. I guess every dog has its day. The young and upcoming are surely doing a great job, as witnessed by the new entrants on this forum, Rod Strictland V2.0 included. Some of them just need mentors to guide them. I for one have mentored many and will continue doing so though at a slower pace. I now need more time with my grand children and great grand children. I was privileged, my 25yr old grand child had twins the beginning of the year. I’m in happier times and have since traded my prolific pen for time with my grand kids.

          • Rod Strictland

Well my good friend I also hope you’ve noticed that my prolific writing has inspired a lot of people such that the forum is now awash with people imitating my style. I wish to put it clear that I distance myself from these people. They are doing a wonderful job, some of them talented but I don’t have anything to do with them.

  • John Motsi

The United Arab Emirates isn’t represented at this fair, what is there is Philipino gentleman residing in the UAE with a local and distributing Chinese cosmetic products. I’ve had a chance to stay in the Emirates and the Arabs don’t really look at Africa as a trading partner or a place to do business. To them Africa is one huge untamed jungle..So to say they are represented at the ZITF will be stretching the imagination a little bit.

  • Galveston

You don’t say! I mean; after witnessing his elaborate and very noisy motorcade along our streets, there was no need for Chronicle to alert us that he’s arrived. Trust me we knew of this, even before your printers inked-up their machines yesterday evening!!

    • Mthokozisi Luthuli

Their parents raised 4 daughters and their dad was kind and welcoming to everyone they ever brought home.

  • Misheck

I think its high time these ladies and gentleman who are
working for this NGO which claims to pay them in Spurt get recognized by both Government and City Council.
They have helped to spruce up the city with their sterling work and I think The
City Of Bulawayo should recognize them by either allowing to pay rates in
spurts or give them a discount on their rates. They have helped to clean up the
City otherwise BCC would not have managed to do it alone. They are not getting
anything for their efforts yet they
still need to feed and send their children to school.

BCC please look into it and maybe Govt will follow suit.

    • Galveston

Please tell us more about this NGO you’ve mentioned. Who are they, what they do and where they’re HQ’d? If they’re from outside Bulawayo; you’ve lost my interest. By the way, what has your comment to do with the story under which you’ve posted?

      • Emmanuel Maleka

work on your own insecurities before embarking on a relationship with someone else.

      • Misheck

The organisation is called Sound Prosperity and it is based in Bulawayo,i am shocked you do not know it by now because they are so many groups esp in Western surburbs of Byo who are doing community work hoping to earn Spurt.Your next question will be what is Spurt? SPURT is a new digital currency, created to make it easier to do commerce.More like Bitcoin.

        • Galveston

Thank you for the information. It has helped me to grasp the nature of your organisation and its work in the local community.
