VICE President Phelekezela Mphoko yesterday visited the Senda and Ndlovu families in Bulawayo to console them following the death of former MP and prominent lawyer Advocate Lot Senda and Zanu-PF Central Committee member Cde Naison Khutshwekhaya Ndlovu’s first born son, Zenzele.

VP Mphoko, who was away in Mozambique when the two died, was accompanied by his wife Laurinda, his son Siqokoqela, Pumula and Luveve MPs Cdes Godfrey Malaba and Ntando Mlilo.

The VP handed over cash and promised to ensure that some groceries are delivered to the two families today.

The late Adv Senda, who was one of the first black lawyers in Zimbabwe died at the age of 92 and was buried at Athlone Cemetery on December 30.
VP Mphoko described him as a warm hearted man, who welcomed him and his family when they moved to Douglasdale suburb after independence when he was the area’s MP.

“I was away in Mozambique when I received news that Adv Senda had passed on. I have come to the Senda family to pass my condolences. This was God’s will and we have to accept it. There’s nothing we can do.

“I last met Adv Senda when he came to my office to report illegal settlers who had invaded his farm,” said VP Mphoko, speaking at Adv Senda’s residence.

He promised the Senda family that he will engage the Minister of Lands and Rural Resettlement Dr Douglas Mombeshora to address the issue of the illegal settlers.

Advocate Senda’s son Mr Reginald Senda expressed gratitude to VP Mphoko and his family for taking their time to visit them.

“On behalf of the Senda family we would like to thank VP Mphoko and his family for visiting us. We’re humbled and we really appreciate the affection shown by Government. VP Emmerson Mnangagwa was also here and we’re truly grateful. We’re also grateful to the VP for promising to assist with the issue of my father’s farm,” said Mr Senda.

Adv Senda and the late High Court judge, Washington Sansole were also among the first black lawyers to set up a law firm, Sansole and Senda Legal Practitioners which is still in existence but is now run by a new breed of legal minds.

VP Mphoko proceeded to Luveve suburb to console Cde Ndlovu and his family.

Cde Ndlovu thanked VP Mphoko for remembering them at a difficult time.

He said his son, who died at the age of 57 and was buried at Bulawayo’s West Park cemetery last Friday is survived by a wife and two children aged three and six years.
