SOUTH Africa and Zimbabwe have named their rugby legends who will clash in Victoria Falls on March 28.

Zimbabwe Tourism Authority head of corporate affairs Sugar Chagonda, a member of the organising committee, said preparations were underway for the event set to attract visitors from Botswana, Namibia and Zambia.

“Their visit will include various activities in Victoria Falls such as conducting a coaching clinic for children from the local schools. The match and all activities that will be undertaken during the team’s visit will be covered by a South African Supersport film crew and a programme will be shown in the weeks to follow on Supersport channels. Supersport has a dedicated rugby channel and this will ensure extensive coverage of the whole event,” said Chagonda.

He said the South African Rugby Legends’ visit is a noble idea which will also go a long way in profiling the tourist destination.

“The visit is of great benefit to the Victoria Falls community through the coaching clinic and other social responsibility programmes that they will undertake. We call upon all Zimbabweans to support this event by attending the match and cheering on our Zimbabwe Rugby Legends and giving a warm welcome to the visiting South African Rugby Legends. Special packages for the event are available which you can all take advantage of and have a great weekend in our premier resort town of Victoria Falls,” he said.

The event is bankrolled by Africa Albida Tourism who will be accommodating the South Africa Rugby Legends for three nights at the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge. Africa Sun will be accommodating the Zimbabwe Rugby Legends for three nights at the Elephant Hills Hotel while Wild Horizons will provide activities and some meals to the players.

Blue Arrow Coaches will provide transport and logistics for the players, Into Africa and Mapopoma will sponsor the boat cruises and dinners with Liquorama Victoria Falls and Cansaf Event co-ordinators chipping in as well.

Missing from the South African side will be Zimbabwe born legends Gary Teitchman and Adrian Garvey.
