THE Zifa Central Region Soccer League has awarded correctional services side Whawha maximum points on a 3-0 scoreline for their abandoned game against Zvishavane Stars.Stanley Chapeta, the Zifa Central Region board member, wrote to both clubs notifying them about the decision that the league has reached.

Zvishavane Stars were found guilty of causing the abandonment of the game recently and were slapped with a $500 fine. They have seven days to appeal against the ruling. However, Whawha failed to take advantage of the awarded points as they played a goalless draw with army side Tongogara at Battlefields at the weekend.

Midlands State University brightened their title aspirations as they edged battling Vumbachikwe 2-1, getting their goals from Nyasha Samende and Ruddy Maruto.

The Sharks, as MSU are affectionately known took advantage of a slip-up by Whawha and Gweru City who were clobbered 0-3 away by ZRP Beitbridge.

With five rounds of games left before the end of the season, MSU coach Godfrey Chuchu remains bullish and maintains the championship is theirs to lose.

“We are aiming to get promoted and what remains for us is to pick as many points as we can in our last five games. As a team we are ready for the challenge that lies ahead,” he said.

Despite Chuchu’s assertions, MSU have tough assignments beginning with a home game to ZRP Beitbridge who are also within shouting distance of the table leaders.

From then, MSU travel to Gwanda to meet a red-hot Blanket Mine who walloped Nkayi United 5-0, Silo United (home), FC Platinum Under-19 and round up their campaign against Whawha which might turn out to be a title decider.
