GWERU-based Airforce of Zimbabwe Premiership side Chapungu are expected to unveil their 2015 season squad next week. The BancEasy sponsored side has been busy on a recruitment drive to inject young blood.

Chapungu survived relegation on the last day of the season and are eager to do better this time around.

Head coach John Nyikadzino has already offloaded six players who were part of the team last season and over 50 players have been trying their luck with the airmen in the hope of impressing the technical bench.

Brighton Mugoni, Callisto Maheya and shot stopper Alexander Useni are some of the players from last season who were released by the club.

Chapungu chief executive officer Chris-Levie Mukotekwa said the club would only announce its list of players for 2015 after a thorough search for the right talent.

“We’ve delayed unveiling the team. We’ll do it in the next two weeks after we’re sure that we’re taking on board the right material which will be able to meet the targets which we’ve set for ourselves this season.

“We might rush into signing a player and then we find someone who’s better. What that then means is that we would’ve wasted a slot. Therefore at the moment we haven’t signed anyone,” he said.

However, some sections of the club suggest that the delays could be that the final squad will be announced after Jairos Tapera who is coming on board as technical advisor has been consulted.

The former FC Platinum and Shabanie Mine gaffer is expected to start work today.

Meanwhile, Chapungu showcased some of the players who are still trying their luck at the club when they held FC Platinum to a 1-1 draw last week in a friendly match played at Mandava Stadium on Wednesday.

Among those who featured in the match were the Shabanie Mine pair of Smart Muchabaiwa and Marvellous Dikinya and FC Platinumm goalkeeper Talbort Shumba.

Nhlanhla Ncube, who once featured for the now defunct Hardbody, and Tongai Magwendere were some of the players who donned the gold and blue Chapungu jersey.
