A TOTAL of 341 officers from the Zimbabwe National Army’s Lookout Masuku Barracks yesterday graduated with certificates after completing different courses.

The graduates carried out different studies which included purchasing, stores procedures, equipment management, driving, vehicle maintenance and vehicle recovery operation.

Quarter Master Chief Staff Major General Hlanganani Dube said the ZNA attaches great importance on the training of its men and women in equipment management.

“These men and women will be employed as store men responsible for the receipt, storage, accounting, management and the final disposal of army equipment. It’s imperative that they get the concept right from the start and I have no doubt that training objectives were met.

“Equipment management is every commander’s responsibility and these stores persons graduating today are custodians of such equipment. The procurement of equipment is challenging under the prevailing economic dispensation hence the need for proper equipment management procedures to be taught,” said Maj Gen Dube.

He said among the 341 graduates were 117 officers graduating from a driving course, which was aimed at producing military drivers capable of carrying out their duties effectively all the time.

The graduates attained class 2 civilian drivers’ licences as well as defensive driving certificates.

“For the first time the school conducted a double streamed training for this course in a bid to reduce a shortfall of drivers in the organisation.

“I would like to encourage the graduates to continue empowering themselves and not to put to waste the achievements they have made,” said Maj Gen Dube.

He reminded the officers that their jobs demanded a lot of transparency, honesty and objectivity and urged them to ensure that their driving skills are perfected to curb road carnage which continues to claim a lot of lives in the country.

Maj Gen Dube also reminded all soldiers to remain focused on their tasks during this period where a lot of political activities were happening.
“Soldiers have an obligation to safeguard the country’s gains of the revolutionary struggle and our territorial integrity against any forms of aggression for our country to be a safe business destination under the new dispensation.

“Soldiers are proponents of peace and stability in the country. Peace must begin with members of the army,” said Maj Gen Dube. —@pamelashumba
