THE Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has shortlisted eight judges, two of them from the Bulawayo High Court to fill four positions at the Supreme Court.

In a statement, the JSC said interviews for the shortlisted judges will be conducted on September 29 starting at 9AM in Harare.

It said the interviews would be open to the media and the public.

“Following the invitation to members of the public and to His Excellency, the President, to nominate suitably qualified persons in terms of Section 180 (2) of the Constitution, the Judicial Service Commission received a number of nominations which meet the qualifications stipulated in the law,” it said.

Two judges from the Bulawayo High Court, justices Nicholas Mathonsi and Francis Bere will join six others justices Priscilla Makanyara Chugumba, Alfas Muvavarigwa Chitakunye, Charles Hungwe, Samuel Kubopa Kudya, Joseph Martin Mafusire and Lavender Makoni for the interviews.

The JSC is on a drive to bring justice closer to the people and ensure that matters are heard on time. Recently it opened a permanent High Court in Masvingo, the third after Harare and Bulawayo.

There are plans to open similar courts in Gweru and Mutare. — @okazunga
