FORMER World Boxing Council welterweight silver boxing champion Charles Manyuchi has been presented with a perfect chance to reclaim his world title in February next year after his Zambian handlers Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotions managed to convince the WBC.

Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotions manager, Christopher Malunga, said they managed to convince the WBC to give the reigning Zimbabwean Sportsperson of the Year another shot at the world title following an order that the former welterweight WBC silver champion Quadratillo Abdukakhorov trades leather with belt holder Shawn Porter with the winner getting into the ring with the Zimbabwean.

“This comes after I made a request in Baku during the 55th Convention of WBC to the board of governors that Manyuchi should be given a chance to challenge the winner between the two boxers. I am very grateful to WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman for the consent,” said Malunga in a presser yesterday.

He said the timing of the fight will give his boxer ample time to prepare for a recapture of his world title, tentatively in February next year.

Manyuchi turned professional in 2009 and has had 24 fights, winning 21 comprising 12 technical knockouts, while losing three times and drawing once.

He won the international welterweight title in 2014 after beating Patrick Allotey and successfully defended his crown in Lusaka, Zambia, against Devis Caceres.

His WBC welterweight silver title came at the expense of Dmitry Mikhailenko before losing it to Abduqaxorov in dramatic fashion after being floored in the first round.
