Harare Bureau
ALL is set for Zanu-PF provincial executive elections in three provinces where the revolutionary party will hold polls today to elect leaders in the main wing, women’s league and youth league. Elections will be held in Manicaland, Midlands and Mashonaland provinces where district executives and senior party leadership are expected to cast their votes to elect their leaders in a poll that would be supervised by Politburo members, Central Committee members and National Consultative Assembly members.

According to a list released by the party’s commissariat last night, Mashonaland West has the highest number of contestants for the post of provincial chair with six people vying for it.

They are Cdes Themba Mliswa, Phillip Chiyangwa, John Mafa, Nimrod Chiminya, Blessed Runesu Hokonya and Colonel Beta Guveya.
On the Women’s league, Cdes Sarah Mahoka and Constance Shamu will lock horns to secure the right to lead the women’s league in the same province.

In Manicaland province acting chairperson, Ambassador John Mvundura would tussle it out with Senator Monica Mutsvangwa while in the women’s league, the following would lock horns, Cdes Joyline Chipo Porusingazi, Clara Mukahanana and Grace Mvududu.

In Midlands province, incumbent chairperson, Cde Jaison Kokerai Machaya would have to contend with a challenge from his deputy, Cde Lawrence David Mavima.

Cde Ellina Shirichena has been duly elected as chairperson of the women’s league in the province after she failed to get any challenger.
Addressing journalists last night, Zanu-PF national political commissar, Cde Webster Shamu said results were expected to be out by end of day today if there are no logistical challenges.

“The process will not only strengthen the party through its own structures but also ensure we deepen democratic centralism within the party. We will continue to ensure that party cadres realise that it is important to abide by the Constitution of the party that we should regularly hold election to elect our leaders,” said Cde Shamu who is also Information and Communication Technology and Postal and Courier Services.

Cde Shamu said the party had directed that all provinces ensured that all constituencies were represented in the provincial executive.
Affiliate Zanu-PF organisations like war veterans, war collaborates and ex-detainees would also support those supervising the polls.
He said the commissariat was still receiving names for candidates in respect of other provinces and were in the process of preparing ballot papers and the district register would act as the voters roll.

“Otherwise everything else is on course. We do hope that at the end of this exercise our revolutionary party will indeed live to the people’s expectation that it is a formidable party which is based on upholding democratic principles within and without,” he said.
