AMAZULU Sports Club will soon be put to tender after the Bulawayo City Council resolved to repossess the facility following failure by the tenants to service it.

According to the latest council minutes, the club was failing to service its account and the facility is always in a bad state such that the building is dilapidated due to lack of maintenance.

The Director of Housing and Community Services, Dictor Khumalo, reported that council on April 1, 1961, resolved to lease stand 1622 B.T to Bulawayo City Bowling Club for a period of 25 years. The first 25 years expired in 1986, while the second automatic 25 years expired in 2011,” Khumalo said in his report.

“AmaZulu then applied to inherit the lease on renewal. Council on March 7, 2012, then renewed the lease for a further 10 years and the lease is due to expire in 2022. A number of breaches were observed by the department. On Stand 2575 BT, the lease was first signed with Callies Sports Club on February 18, 1966. The duration of the lease is 75 years and it expires in 2041. However, council on April 1, 1998, resolved that AmaZulu Sports Club take over the remaining tenure of the lease up to 2041. AmaZulu Club has failed to maintain the premises and their account.”

The total bill owed to the council stands at $112 101.21.

After Khumalo’s report, it was then recommended that council rescinds its resolutions of March 7, 2012 and April 1, 1998, that allowed AmaZulu Sports Club to finish off the lease tenures of stands 1622 and 2575 Bulawayo Township respectively. It was resolved that the repossessed properties are tendered as per procedure and that AmaZulu Sports Club clears all outstanding arrears and the accounts to stop accruing henceforth. — @skhumoyo2000
