CASTLE Lager Premier Soccer League new boys Border Strikers showed their intentions of staying in the topflight by holding former champions Dynamos in a friendly before a capacity crowd at Dulibadzimu Stadium in Beitbridge on Saturday afternoon.

Dynamos were matched man for man by the league debutants.

Border Strikers drew first blood in the 18th minute through attacking midfielder David Tito, who connected from a corner.

The Harare giants resorted to sporadic counter attacks after trying other tricks to no avail.

The home team went to the breather leading by the solitary goal, but Dynamos drew level in the 63rd minute through King Nasama.

Six minutes later, Dynamos went ahead courtesy of a powerful strike by Farai Mupasiri.

The visitors camped in the Border Strikers’ half after taking the lead, but failed to capitalise on their dominance.

Junidly Borges then equalised for the home side in the 80th minute for a share of the spoils.

Border Striker’s assistant coach Never Malunga said he was impressed with the result, although his side needs to avoid giving away too many fouls.

“We conceded both goals from set pieces and we need to work hard in that area, but overall I’m impressed with how we played against a competitive team,” said Malunga.

Border Strikers captain Mike Vhariso said the team needs to work hard in dealing with aerial balls.

Dynamos coach Paulo Silva said his team had played well although they had conceded silly goals.

“All our goals were as a result of goalkeeping mistakes. Overall the team is impressive and we’re ready to challenge for honours in the PSL,” Silva said.

Border Strikers’ secretary Rodlet Chigwinya hopes the football authorities will give them the greenlight to use Dulibadzimu Stadium for their home matches when the 2016 season kicks-off next weekend.

Part of the precast wall and perimeter fence at the stadium were washed away by heavy rains that lashed the border town about a fortnight ago.
