THE Highlanders’ board has hailed Bulawayo-based supporters club Heart and Soul for helping fund the club’s home games.

Heart and Soul, led by Peacot Hadebe, has over the years helped pay the costs for Bulawayo giants’ home matches, particularly the team’s camping meals.

Its members also travel for Bosso’s away matches.

Highlanders’ president Jimmy Ncube hailed Heart and Soul at a Christmas party held at the club’s Luveve suburb camping house, popularly known as “Hotel California”.

“You people have carried the club through thick and thin. As a board, we realise your unparalleled love and loyalty for this great institution and we are saying keep up the good work. As the club president, I also want you to inculcate that spirit to the generality of our supporters and urge them to support the club even when results are not coming. We are truly humbled by what you do for Highlanders,” said Ncube.

The end of year party was attended by other board members, who include board secretary Mathew Sibindi, Cosmos Sikhosana, Thomas Ngwenya, Elkannah Dube as well as retired radio legend, Luke Mnkandla.

Retired former chairman and chief executive officer Ndumiso Gumede and club legend Lawrence “Lofty” Phiri also attended the party.

Treasurer Donald Ndebele represented the club’s executive committee.

Dube implored the club’s supporters to make full use of “Hotel California” by sprucing up the place, so the team camps there and cut on camping costs.

“Let’s have the place back to its original state because surely as it is now, its state is not that pleasing and I would like to urge you (Heart and Soul) to help spruce it up so that we can have the team camping here as it used to,” said Dube.
