BULAWAYO will this week play host to a national food conference whose aim is finding ways of enhancing food security. The Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe in collaboration with other development partners are organising the event, which will be held at a local hotel on Thursday and Friday under the theme “Enhancing Food Security”.

The theme draws inspiration from the country’s economic blue print, Zim-Asset. Zimbabwe Food Expo executive chairman, Tafadzwa Musarara said the conference will provide a platform to key players in the food value chain to deliberate on ways to enhance food security.

“The conference will among other things, identify areas affected by food shortages with a view to finding solutions,” said Musarara.

Musarara said emphasis will be on tackling factors that affect Matabeleland provinces’ ability to produce cereal products.

Local food processing and manufacturing companies would during the conference showcase their products.

“This exhibition seeks to highlight the fact that local industry has the capacity to meet local demand for food hence there is no need to allow imports of most products,” said Musara.

The exhibition will be held at the Large City Hall and is open to members of the public.
