CHICKEN Inn and Chapungu played to a goalless draw in an uninspiring Castle Lager Premiership tie at Luveve Stadium yesterday.

With the Game Cocks’ title aspirations having evaporated in midweek when they played to a 2-2 draw with Ngezi Platinum Stars, the home side struggled to find fluidity to break down Chapungu’s defence.

Chicken Inn’s fourth place finish is now guaranteed as Caps United remain four points behind them with one match to go.

Both teams struggled to create chances upfront with only a few clear cut chances coming their way.

Chapungu upped the ante in the second half posing more trouble for Chicken Inn, but they could not find the net. The closest the airmen came to scoring was in the 81st minute when they were awarded a corner kick and substitute Osbourne Mukurudare’s header from inside the box was punched back into play by goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze. The Chapungu striker had a chance to redeem himself from the rebound, but his shot bounced off George Majika and out of play for a throw in. Chapungu coach Tendai Chikuni said it was a tactical game which both teams failed to win.

“It’s still game on; last game of the season we will be refreshing the team. We have introduced a lot of youngsters who have given us speed and intensity,” said Chikuni.

Chicken Inn and Chapungu feature heavily in the championship deciders next week as they face Dynamos and FC Platinum respectively, who are fighting for the title on the last day of the Premiership.
