CHAPUNGU will troop into Ascot Stadium this afternoon to face relegated Bantu Rovers in a Castle Lager Premiership encounter seeking their first top eight finish since returning to the elite league in 2014.

After a sluggish start to the season during which they spent the better part of the campaign fighting relegation, the air force team seem to be out of the woods and now look set to battle it out for a top eight finish.

After enlisting the services of gaffer, Tendai Chikuni, in the run-up to the season the airmen had set their targets on finishing among the top teams in the league.

The airmen are currently 10th on the log with 40 points and a win this afternoon will see them storming into the top eight, depending on the other results.

With three rounds of matches to go before the curtain comes down on the season, Bantu Rovers are the weakest opposition and Chapungu will fancy their chances of collecting maximum points.

In the remaining two fixtures, Chapungu will travel to Bulawayo for a date with Chicken Inn over the weekend before they round up their campaign against FC Platinum at Ascot Stadium.

Chikuni said they are taking the game seriously and will be going all out to collect maximum points.

“We are taking it seriously; if you look at where we are on the log standings, we need to improve our position. We do not need to slip up at this stage of the campaign and therefore the boys need to give their best. This is one match we should collect maximum points from, but we are not underrating Bantu Rovers,” Chikuni said.

Bantu Rovers still have nothing to play for save for their pride and may just frustrate the airmen’s plans.
