GWERU-based Premiership sides, Chapungu and Whawha, will assess their new signings when they take on Dynamos and Caps United respectively in friendly matches today in the Midlands.

The teams are taking advantage of the Premiership break to support the Young Warriors’ clash with the South Africa Under-23 in the African Championships qualifiers in Harare on Sunday.

Chapungu locks horns with DeMbare at Ascot Stadium in Gweru while Whawha tackles Caps United at Baghdad Stadium in Kwekwe.

Both sides would not reveal the identity of their new signings that will be unveiled at today’s encounters.

Chapungu coach John Nyikadzino said the purpose of their match was to try out new combinations.

“We will be trying new combinations and refining our tactics, therefore for us the game is not about results. We will use the match to assess one or two players we should be signing,” said Nyikadzino.

Sources in the Chapungu camp revealed that the airmen are close to signing ZPC Kariba attacking linkman Terrence Gonzo, and could have snatched former Dynamos player Patrick Khumbula from under the nose of Whawha.

Dynamos coach David Mandigora would be using the match to find a winning formula following a series of draws, which have put him under pressure from the DeMbare faithfuls despite his side being just two points adrift of log leaders Chicken Inn.

Whawha have promised fans a “better” side as the prison warders embarks on what should be a great escape, as the season enters the home stretch.

“We’re still looking for reinforcements and tomorrow’s match will be used to assess players that have joined us so far. We’re now looking for quality because we don’t want to be in the Premiership for one season only,” club chairman Musa Ntonga boldly declared.
