All is set for the inaugural Chiredzi Arts Festival (CAF) to be held at Chiredzi Civic Centre Grounds starting tonight. The three-day fete which ends on Sunday, will feature performances from Calabash, Trevor Dongo, Tocky Vibes, comedian-cum-singer Kapfupi, dendera maestro Sulumani Chimbetu and Nicholas “Senior Professor” Zacharia among others. Sculptors drawn from different parts of the country will also exhibit their works.

CAF spokesperson, Mike Hove, said all was in place for the inaugural arts show and he promised the entertainment starved sugar town a weekend to remember.

He said the festival was being held to create a platform for established and up-and-coming artistes to network and develop each other.

“Our aim is to promote artistes in the country especially the up-and-coming ones. Renowned artistes will add colour to the inaugural event and I’m sure they won’t disappoint fans,” said Hove.

Chiredzi Town Council chairman Councillor Francis Moyo supported the hosting of the festival saying the local authority was ensuring everything flows smoothly.

“We’re very lucky as Chiredzi Town Council to host such a big event in the history of this local authority. Recently, our counterparts, Chiredzi Rural District council held the Great Limpopo Cultural Fair which also attracted a bumper crowd and we’re expecting a similar attendance over the weekend,” said Clr Moyo.
