THE Confederation of Southern African Schools Sports Association (Cosassa) team has set itself a target of 18 gold medals when the games end on May 2 in Lesotho. This was revealed by the head coach Lismati Pakamile during the send off ceremony of the team at Northlea High School yesterday. Bulawayo Provincial Education Director Dan Moyo officiated at the function.

The team leaves for Lesotho by road this morning.

“Last year we got 17 gold medals despite a target of 15 gold medals so this time around we’re looking at getting 18 gold medals and I’m confident that we’ll achieve this,” said Pakamile.

He said the team was happy with the camping conditions and was ready for battle in Lesotho.

“We really appreciate the efforts done by National Association of Primary and Secondary Heads. We’re happy and excited,” said Pakamile.

Moyo called for discipline on and off the pitch.

He encouraged the athletes, made up of primary and secondary pupils, to thrive to be all rounders.

“We should be all rounders, let’s pursue our academic side as well as sporting activities because we can’t be sports persons for life. When you’re say 40 years old you can’t continue to earn a living from sport and that’s when you can turn to your academic skills,” said Moyo.

He urged the athletes to be the country’s ambassadors while in Lesotho.

“Lift the Zimbabwean flag high while in that country,” he said.

The Games start on April 30 and end on May 2.
